MCHP Fact Sheet
The Minnesota Council of Health Plans
- The council represents eight Minnesota health care organizations.
The council's membership is very diverse in terms of size, location,
market niche, care delivery approach and provider relationships.
All of our members hold a Minnesota HMO or CISN (Community Integrated
Service Network) license.
- There are many managed care organizations that are not members
of the council, including self-funded employer health plans, purchasing
coalitions, federally regulated health plans and some preferred
provider organizations.
- All of the council's member health plans are nonprofit organizations
with a culture of community service and community health improvement.
As nonprofit organizations, our member health plans do not pay
out profits or dividends to shareholders. All health plan premium
revenues are reinvested in health care or deposited in state-mandated
reserve accounts to protect against unanticipated losses.
- The council and its members endorse a philosophy of health care
that distinguishes them from other managed care organizations.
Our philosophy of care emphasizes comprehensive coverage, prevention
and health improvement, improvement of the quality and effectiveness
of treatment, and coordination of care.
