General Information
- All Minnesota Council of Health Plans members are by law nonprofit
organizations. Of the 50 states, Minnesota is the only one that
prohibits for-profit HMOs. Print a copy of the Council Fact Sheet.
- Minnesota Council of Health Plans members provide employment
for more than 15,900 Minnesotans throughout the state.
- Minnesota's health plans paid more than $87.5 million in payroll,
state income and property taxes.
- Minnesota's oldest health plan, First Plan of Minnesota (based
in Two Harbors), was founded more than 60 years ago.
- In 2004,
Minnesota's nonprofit health plans contributed more than $10 million to grants and other direct support to research, teaching and community service organizations.
